Red Jordans bring the Chicago Bulls shade to everyday sneakers for school, work and weekends out, with sizes for men, women and kids. Several retro models in the Jordan sneakers lineup share the color, and each one sits on a different build, so the choice starts with the shape you like.
Purists lean toward the Jordan 1, fans of a rounded or layered shape lean toward the 9 or the 4, and anyone after a bolder surface goes with the 3.
Red sits at the root of the line. The debut Air Jordan 1 paired Chicago red with black, and Nike built its well-known "Banned" ad around that look, although the shoe the NBA actually objected to in 1984 was the Air Ship, a model Jordan wore before the Air Jordan 1 was ready. That story still follows the shade.
Later models kept the tradition going. The Air Jordan 11, designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1995, became known for its patent leather mudguard and carbon fiber spring plate.
Decide how much red you want, then match the model to your routine. For one model, see red Air Jordan 1 shoes or red Air Jordan 4 shoes.
Each model brings its own parts; the specs below follow the Jordan 1, 9 and 4.
An Air-Sole unit sealed inside the heel of the Jordan 1 adds light cushioning.
Leather panels give the Jordan 1 its structure, and perforations across the toe let warm air escape.
The Jordan 9 places Nike Air in the sole, under a leather and synthetic upper.
The Jordan 4 uses a rubber sole with a herringbone tread, a zigzag pattern that adds grip.
Mostly red pairs include the Jordan 4 Retro "Toro Bravo," red with grey touches, and the Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Nails & Grails," red with metallic silver. White, sail or ivory bases carry red as the accent on pairs like the Jordan 9 Retro "Space Jam" and the Jordan 3 Retro. Darker takes include the Jordan 1 "Love Letter" in brown with red and tan and the Jordan 6 Retro with red on black.

The Air Jordan 1 is a slim high-top with a leather upper and a sealed heel Air-Sole unit. The Air Jordan 4, a 1989 Tinker Hatfield design, adds mesh netting and plastic lace wings, so it looks busier.
Nike notes the Jordan 4 Retro is narrower through the forefoot and recommends half a size up for wider feet. For the other models, measure your foot length and line it up with the Hibbett size chart.
Red and black pairs work with dark denim, black joggers or grey sweats because the shoe repeats colors already in the outfit. Keep the rest of the look simple and let the shoes carry the color.
Wipe the upper with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, and use a gentle brush on the sole. Strong chemicals can dull the red dye, so stick to gentle soap and leave the shoes to dry away from heaters.
