Home of avant-garde art, Centre Pompidou’s eye-catching building showcased the air conditioning vents, staircases and even the electrical of the building on the outside. The idea was to create a living organism-type structure. Fascinated by this approach, Hatfield applied that same concept to the Nike Air Max 1, making the Air-Sole unit something everyone could see, and sneakerheads instantly fell in love with the futuristic look and organic, wavy mudguards.

Over the years, the Nike Air Max 1 has been released in countless colorways, but a few stand out as the most iconic, including the OG red and white edition and the “Game Royal,” Nike Air Max 1's blue, grey and white colorway. The shoe made a comeback around 2023, the 35th anniversary of the Air Max 1 design.
