The Hottest Christmas Sneaker Launches of the Past

It’s already mid-December, so if you haven’t started your shopping, well, you should probably get on that ASAP. However, if you’re finished with your list and want a bit of seasonal nostalgia to look back upon, here are a few Christmas sneakers that dropped during holidays of yore (i.e., the last couple of years). So let’s take a step back in time and look at some of the best Jordan holiday releases and Christmas basketball shoes.

Christmas 2019

It’s always a great holiday season when Jordans appear under the tree. In Christmas 2019, Jumpman Claus left the Air Jordan Retro 11 black and Concord kicks — a predominantly black sneaker with a black patent leather rand as shiny as Old St. Nick’s boots … and hits of Concord along the outsole.

What’s better than breaking bread with family and friends during the season? Wearing a pair of Breds on your feet to those gatherings. Jordan more than delivered in the form of the “Bred” Air Jordan 11 Retros in mid-December. 

Christmas 2020

December 2020 was pretty bleak, given the ongoing pandemic and uncertainty around the world, but the Jordan brand gave us all room for some optimism as the holidays crept nearer.

At the end of November, the Jumpman brand unveiled the Air Jordan 4 Retros “Fire Red” for both men and kids. White leather uppers, black wings and red embellishments gave these sneakers their vintage basketball style — a look everyone could get behind.

The Air Jordan 11 Retros got big play in 2019 and through the 2020 holiday season. The “Jubilee” shoe exuded plenty of suave sophistication thanks to sleek black uppers adorned with hits of silver. Plus, the shoes were available in sizes ranging from infant and toddler all the way up to women’s and men’s.

Christmas 2021

With a future looking decidedly more optimistic, we rolled into the 2021 holiday season with “Royalty,” a colorway appearing on the Air Jordan 12 Retro featuring white tumbled leather, black laces and sophisticated gold tones. The color palette was pared down yet impactful, and these shoes flew off the shelves. 

Once again, a holiday Jordan 11, this time in “Cool Grey.” These effortlessly cool men’s and kids’ kicks offered a tonal look, playing off the textures and materials of the shoe to create a versatile grey sneaker package.

Christmas 2022
