What has the textured shell of a beetle, the branding of a penny and the comfort of foot-conforming foam? Nike’s otherworldly Foamposite sneaker line. These futuristic kicks co-opted by none other than Penny Hardaway keep lightweight supportiveness top of mind.

That’s why these shoes are the perfect fit for the always-active younger set, too. Beginning May 15, toddlers, preschoolers and grade school kids can slip on a pair of Little Posite Ones in a slick white, black and Hyper Royal rendition. This colorway is a retooling of the very first Foamposite One shoe Hardaway sported — the Dark Neon Royal, white and black OG model.

When Nike’s Eric Avar designed the Foamposite Ones, he had Scottie Pippen in mind as the wearer. The story goes, however, that Penny Hardaway peeped a pair of these sneaks tucked in Avar’s bag and called dibs. The original Foamposites rolled out in 1997, the first court shoe to use a polyurethane liquid that’s heated and poured into an upper-shaped mold.

The resulting upper shell features a series of wavy, vertical lines absent of any branding attached to a foam-injected midsole. The resulting package softens and conforms to the foot over time for a glove-like fit, ideal for young kids on the go.

The Little Posite One also includes a full-length Zoom Air unit that sits low to the ground. A carbon fiber plate bisects the outsole to offer arch support, stability and the right amount of flexibility to clock it down the court or around the playground.

A supportive inner bootie cradles the foot and contributes to the comfort of the Little Posite One, while heel tabs make it easy for kids to pull on or take off their sneaks at day’s end. Branding includes a small Swoosh near the toe and Penny Hardaway’s famous one-cent logo incorporated throughout the shoe.
