Spring is in the air…and so is a new colorway of the AJ 5. The 1990 release was the first time anyone ever used molded foam in a shoe upper, so it marked new territory for Michael Jordan and designer Tinker Hatfield.

The Nike Air Jordan Retro 5 Low in Desert Berry, Coral Chalk, black and white is bright and happy, just like you’d expect a little girl’s basketball shoe to be. This new kick is a girls’ exclusive, with sizes for grade school kids, preschool kids and toddler kids. They all drop on April 4.

This shoe’s upper is primarily made of white tumbled leather with a few different monochromatic overlays around the toe box, heel and middle. The middle on each side also features a clear ventilation panel to help the shoe be more breathable.

A clear eyestay panel locks down the crisp white laces. These strap over a shiny pink embroidered Jumpman logo on the tongue. The back of the tongue and ankle padding is a soft pink, as is the insole. Around the ankle collar is smoother white leather. The heel features a similar embroidered pink Jumpman.

The midsole is where this shoe shines. It’s a two-toned pink design, with the heel insert and iconic flames, inspired by how MJ played like a fighter plane, in a darker shade. The rest of the midsole is a lighter pink, and there’s a see-through Air unit in the heel. Under all of this is a gummy white rubber outsole with a pink heel insert with Jordan branding and a Jumpman embedded at the forefoot.

Since the AJ 5’s first low version in 2006, people have really come around to a non-high version of this sneaker. These days, we think girls will love the lower construction, as it lets them wear matching pink leggings and their favorite tee with ease. No-show ankle socks complete the look.
