Nike continues its 2025 Foamposite revival with the June 20 drop of a brand new "White" colorway, releasing in men's sizes.
We've seen all-black Foamposites before, and the 2021 Commes des Garçons collab brought an all-white colorway to the Foamposite family. But the CdG/Swoosh collab used a new mold, essentially creating a new shoe. On June 20, we'll see white Foamposites in the original silhouette, a callback to 2013's "White Out" release. Don't miss this clean, iconic colorway — available online and in-store at Hibbert.
A Legend in the Sneaker Game
Foamposites burst onto the sneaker scene in 1997, the brainchild of Eric Avar, a shoe-design legend today but still an emerging talent at the Swoosh in the late '90s. Avar wanted to make a shoe that would fit your foot like a glove.
That quest led him to the groundbreaking molded plastic upper that defines the Foamposite silhouette, putting it years ahead of its time at launch. The mold itself was such a departure from traditional shoe manufacturing that Nike had to get it made by Daewoo, the Korean car company.
The history of Foamposites includes the tale that these shoes were originally intended for Scottie Pippen, but the Chicago Bulls forward balked at the outlandish design. Meanwhile, Penny Hardaway wasn't feeling the looks proposed for his third signature shoe with Nike.
Then a chance encounter with a Foamposite prototype put those shoes on Hardaway's feet for the 1997 NBA playoffs, when he made history as the first Orlando Magic player to have a 40-point playoff game. Hardaway and the Nike Air Foamposite have been inseparable ever since.
