Sneakers Release: adidas D.O.N. Issue #2 “Champ,” Out 4/9

What does it take to become a champion? The answer will vary depending on whom you ask. But for Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, the answer is sharp focus, superhuman intuition and practice-made-perfect skills.

At 24 years old, Mitchell, aka “Spida,” has already garnered plenty of acclaim, but when it comes to the court, he keeps his head down and remains quick on his feet. You don’t have to have Mitchell’s “Spidey-like” senses to unearth your own champion status, but you DO need grit and practice. Oh, and good basketball shoes help, too.

We can help with that last part, starting April 9 with the release of the men’s adidas D.O.N. Issue #2 “Champion” sneakers. The men’s basketball sneakers will drop in a champion-worthy Core Black colorway with white and gold embellishments. The inspiration for this colorway is Mitchell’s goal of snagging a championship title.

Core Black swaths this entire shoe — from outsole to insole and heel to toe. Gold sprinkled along the midsole gives an almost starry-night quality to the sneaker, while a tiger-like pattern stripes the toe box. The medial side near the toe dons a dazzle of gold zigzagging to reinforce this high-wearing area.

Black mesh overlays in the comic-book-like zigzag pattern trim the shoe’s lateral side, and the bold gold overlay along the medial prominently proclaims the word “Championship.” (No one would ever say Spida lacks flash.)

White Three Stripes are inset into the medial-side midsole near the heel, and gold adidas branding adorns the tongue and the “Issue 2” tag along the lacing system. Gridded black webbing forms the traction pattern underfoot, giving the player the traction he needs to make precise moves based on spur-of-the-moment instinct.

Other comforts in this basketball shoe include adidas’ Bounce cushioning for all-day play, a half-bootie construction that contributes to exceptional foot lockdown and an energy-returning heel cage.

The mark of a true champion is to keep going to reach goals. Will Mitchell get a championship title? Time will tell. Regardless, play like this budding champion in a pair of the men’s adidas D.O.N.
