The adidas Dame 7 EXTPLY “Damenosis” White/Silver/Core Black men’s basketball shoe drops October 19 at Hibbett | City Gear.

Damian Lillard draws his inspiration from many places. He’s both a basketball and hip hop star, slinging baskets for the Portland Trail Blazers and rhymes under his moniker Dame D.O.L.L.A. There haven’t been many players like him, except for the one and only Shaquille O’Neal.

Just like Big Game Dame, Shaq started his career putting up big numbers night after night but then transitioned into both footwear and music. And now, the latest version of the adidas Dame 7 is paying tribute to how this pro paved the way. The adidas Dame 7 “Damenosis” draws direct inspiration from two Shaq elements: Shaq’s first studio album “Shaq Diesel” and the Reebok Shaqnosis, which was one of the grooviest black and white basketball shoes from the 90s.

Right away, you’ll notice the Shaqnosis vibe. Black and white wavy vertical stripes cover the upper for a jail look. There’s a black support overlay at the toe, midfoot and ankle, which contrasts sharply with the rest of the white knit upper.

Just in case you missed the influences for this shoe, you’ll see them noted along the lateral forefoot. Black letters read “/EXT PLY /DAME D.O.L.L.A. FEAT. SHAQ DIESEL /DAMENOSIS” on a white overlay. There’s also an adidas and Reebok collab tab under the ankle. On the medial side, you’ll see a similar element below the ankle, with a black tag featuring a white adidas logo, the words “D.O.L.L.A. EXT/PLY” and a UPC barcode.

The black ribbed tongue switches to white underneath the white lacing system, which is supplemented with an ankle strap reading “MMXXI” — 2021 in Roman numerals.

Even though Dame is paying tribute to the past, he’s still being forward-thinking by including recycled materials in the design of the shoe. At least 20% of the upper is made of 50% recycled content, which is a step in the right direction.

These kicks would look awesome with a retro Shaq Lakers jersey from the 90s. If that’s not possible, you can lace them up with your uniform. Not a baller? Not a problem. Dame doesn’t believe in having just one identity, so why should you? Use these shoes to hit the streets the next time you want to make a statement in your shorts and an oversized hoodie.
