Sneakers Release – “Bright Crimson” Nike Freak 2 KSA Launching Feb. 20

Feb 10, 2021

Budding basketball freaks and school-age sports geeks won’t want to miss the “Bright Crimson” Nike Freak 2 KSA colorway, dropping in preschool kids’ and grade school kids’ sizes on February 20.

Like its namesake, NBA superstar Giannis “The Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo, these shoes are freakishly impressive thanks to their vibrant Bright Crimson, white, blue and Opti Yellow color pallette and arsenal of performance-enhancing tech. But that’s no surprise since Giannis himself collaborated with Nike to develope and design the second iteration of his signature basketball sneaker.

The Nike Zoom Freak 2 comes dressed in eye-catching Bright Crimson mesh layers, punctuated with prominent lateral-side white Swooshes. Black TPU accents provide a counterbalance to the silhouette’s vivid coloring and adorn the midsole and heel area. A black coating also reinforces the durability of the sneaker’s high-wear-area toe. Bright blue coats the shoe’s throat, tongue, sockliner and ankle, and blue laces thread through Bright Crimson eyestays.

The sneaker’s medial side includes a shiny red patent leather with perforated holes near the forefoot and a smaller white, embroidered Swoosh toward the heel. The red overlay attaches to an Opti Yellow piece that serves as a heel tab and runs horizontally behind the ankle. The Nike Freak badge appears in yellow on the tongue, and other Antetokounmpo branding found both internally and externally on the basketball shoe comes in the Opti Yellow.

A red outsole covers the forefoot area with a fingerprint-like traction pattern, while the heel portion of the sole is white with a scribbled-on design and Antetokounmpo’s family’s names. A black, midfoot shank plate bisects both pieces.

When Nike’s senior design director Ross Klein helped create the Zoom Freak 2, he and his team wanted a shoe to help the Greek Freak execute his signature move, the Euro-step. With an Air Zoom midsole to provide the perfect amount of shock absorption, a mesh upper for breathability and a decoupled rubber outsole, the Zoom Freak 2 gives any baller — from toddler to pre-teen — the underfoot tools they need for smooth on-court or in-class moves.
