The Jordan 1 Mid SS “Black/Gym Red/White” grade school, preschool and toddler kids’ shoe drops May 11 at Hibbett | City Gear.

What’s black and red and white all over? The OG “Bred” colorway of the Air Jordan 1. This infamous color combo has kept MJ’s fans captivated all throughout his storied NBA career—and beyond. Now, we’re about to see a fun rework of the iconic style.

The AJ 1 Mid “Black + Red = Bred” colorway takes all the components of the original style, but mixes them in a fresh and unexpected way. With sizes available for grade school kids, preschool kids and toddler kids, this shoe is a great way to introduce your little one to baller culture.

From a distance, this shoe might look like it has a checkered black and white pattern, but close up, you’ll see that it’s actually the word “Black” repeated over and over again on the classic white leather upper. The effect hurts the eyes a bit to look at, but it certainly gets the point across.

On the toe box, middle Swoosh, heel counter and ankle wrap are black overlays with “Red” in red font repeated all over them. There’s also red accent stitching to help add a little more definition to the word soup. An all-black Jordan Wings logo is on the lateral ankle, but it’s a bit hard to see with all of the other detailing.

Black laces and a black ankle collar add some necessary solid ground on the shoe, as does the traditional white midsole. On the lateral heel of the midsole, you’ll see the red “Black + Red = Bred” motto. Beneath that, an all-red midsole keeps things chill.

If you’re not a huge fan of the way these colors are blocked out, there’s also a more traditional version of the AJ 1 “Bred” dropping. It takes the same concept—words covering the whole upper—but with the more common black upper with red accents.

Overall, this shoe is a fun take on a style that’s entered His Airness lore. Your little ones can wear these to school with jeans and their favorite MJ jersey to prove their basketball love. Or, they could keep it a little more chill with basketball shorts and a T-shirt when hanging with friends.
