Sneakers Release- Jordan 11 Retro Low “Legend Blue” Launches 5/7

Apr 26, 2021

Allow us to set a scene: It’s 1996 All-Star Weekend 1996 in San Antonio, Texas. Best new country artist Shania Twain belts out a spirited rendition of “Oh, Canada,” and a star-studded lineup of NBA greats make their way onto the hardwood.

The Western Conference roster includes Shawn Kemp, Charles Barkley and Clyde Drexler. On the Eastern side stand Grant Hill, Scottie Pippen, Shaq and Michael Jordan, back from his first retirement. Throughout the game, one that would make history books, MJ scores 20 points with four rebounds … and he’s named Most Valuable Player (a controversial title as many thought Shaq actually deserved the honor).

On His Airness’ feet: a pair of Air Jordan 11 lows. This month, Jordan Brand is commemorating that legendary ’96 game with a new AJ 11 colorway that combines elements of 2014’s AJ 11 Retro “Legend Blue” and the ’96 OG “Columbia” palette worn by the G.O.A.T. himself during that NBA All-Star game. Cop a pair of “Legend Blue” Air Jordan 11 Retro Lows in toddler, preschool, grade school and men’s sizes on May 7.

A crisp white base composed of both genuine and synthetic leather characterizes the AJ 11 Retro Low, complete with white patent leather encircling the shoe to impart a light-catching sheen. The sneaker’s padded throat and tongue comprise white ballistic nylon, and cable laces weave in and out of the ribbon-style eyestays, which run from the patent leather mudguard to the lacing system.

At first glance, these kicks seem to be unmarked by traditional Jumpman branding, but a subtle Carolina blue nylon tag trims the throat, a minuscule blue Jumpman sits embroidered at the heel, and a larger iteration of the icon is tucked beneath the outsole’s icy translucent overlay.

Black dresses the sockliner, with a tab at the ankle showcasing the No. 23. The insole, however, shows off a 25 — a nod to MJ’s All-Star number. A fully encapsulated Air-Sole unit is contained within a textured white Phylon midsole, and a carbon fiber shank plate lends stability to this legendary sneaker release.

Along with the Jumpman logo found out on the basketball shoe’s outsole, the traction pattern offers a mix of black herringbone along the forefoot and heel and undulating waves of icy rubber in between.

Be your own MVP when you slide on a pair of these 1996-inspired “Legend Blue” Air Jordan 11 Lows in white, Legend Blue and black, launching in in toddler, preschool, grade school and men’s sizes on May 7.
