On October 1, the Air Jordan 12 Retro drops in a deliciously dark and sophisticated “Hyper Royal” blended with black and embellished with Metallic Silver and white.
Look out, ladies! This one’s for you. Unleash your inner baddie with the help of the latest women’s-exclusive Jumpman sneaker. These sumptuous shoes give off all the trappings of a traditional AJ 12 Retro, from the full-grain leather upper to the snakeskin-like textured mudguards playing along the shoe’s sides in asymmetrical fashion.
Black informs much of the sneaker’s upper, extending from the heel to the toe. When Tinker Hatfield designed these kicks all those years ago, he took inspo not only from the Japanese rising sun flag but also the stacked aesthetic of a women’s Victorian boot. This Air Jordan 12 Retro skillfully enmeshes the two ideas, with sunlike overlays and stitched-on “rays” emanating out, suggesting the silhouette of both sun and shoe.
The mudguards feature the sneaker’s titular tone, the Hyper Royal, also playing out on the throat’s “Two 3” text and the tongue’s embroidered Jumpman. An elongated black heel tab features the blue Jumpman and 23 in blocked text, with a 23 set into the white rubber below as well.
The subtle upper belies the wild pastel variations that dress the insole and the outsole — an ’80s-esque print awash with purples, teals, yellows and pinks, perhaps lending a softer, more feminine edge to the shoe. Other hallmark features of the Air Jordan 12 Retro include the full-length Air-Sole unit for lightweight cushioning and a full-length shank plate — visible along the outsole — that lends stability and responsiveness to the women’s Jordan shoe.
