The Jordan 3 Retro “Court Purple” White/Black/Dark Iris colorway drops in men’s, grade school, preschool and toddler sizes August 24 at Hibbett | City Gear.

What’s more ’80s than the Air Jordan 3? This shoe that originally dropped in 1988 featured a quirky elephant print along with a clean finish that you could pair with your favorite tracksuit.

Now, you can grab the shoe in a new colorway that would feel right at home in the big, bold colors of this throwback decade. The AJ Retro 3 in Dark Iris, white and black could be a nod to MJ’s ownership stake in the Charlotte Hornets, who share a similar purple hue in their uniform colors. Either way, the shoe is dropping on August 24 in men’s and kids’ sizes.

Right away, you may see parallels between this shoe and the 2020 “Court Purple” colorway. Basically, this new shoe is just the white version of that kick. A white leather upper looks crisp and fresh. You’ll see the tell-tale black and silver elephant print along the toe and at the heel that was chosen by designer Tinker Hatfield to help the shoes feel more luxurious. There are a few additional purple accents throughout, including on the back half of the midsole and along the ankle. However, the ankle padding transitions to black.

White laces thread into purple eyelets at the top of the eyestay, but these transition into white TPU clips toward the top of the tongue. The white tongue features a black Jumpman with a purple embroidered outline. The back of the tongue is also purple, along with the insole. On the insole is a white Jumpman.

On the heel, you’ll see an oversized Jumpman in his epic soar toward the hoop, along with the word “Air” printed beneath. These elements are slightly raised, creating a 3D look that gives them a shadow at certain angles.

The outsole is mostly white and features a visible Air Unit in the heel. However, it gives way to gray and purple tread underfoot. A purple traction circle stands out on the forefoot, while the word “Jordan” is printed in purple on the heel.

You can’t go wrong with a shoe like this in your closet. It’s neutral enough to go with most pieces, including jeans, joggers or basketball shorts. But if you really want to channel the Black Cat’s energy, pair it with a vintage MJ jersey or your favorite cropped hoodie.
There’s always room for another Jordan in your closet, and the AJ Retro 3 in Dark Iris, white and black certainly won’t disappoint.
