Now, this is a story all about how the Jordan brand decided to finally release its much-anticipated Air Jordan 5 Retro “Alternate Bel-Air” shoe, which pays homage to the Fresh Prince himself. Sure, 2020 is the year life got flipped turned upside-down, so why not take a minute to snag a pair of these fun-loving sneakers that hearken back to simpler times?
The Air Jordan 5 got its debut in 1990 along with a beloved, must-watch TV sitcom: “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
And whether they spend their days on the playground, chilling out or just shootin’ some bball outside of school, men and kids of all ages can get a taste of that effortless ’90s “Bel-Air” style. On August 15, retro Will Smith fans and school-age kids, too, have the chance to slide their feet into a pair of Air Jordan 5 Retro “Alternate Bel-Air” sneakers, available in men’s, toddler, preschool and grade school kids’ sizes. The shoe’s colorway features a white, Ghost Green and Court Purple palette.
Keep those feet fresh inside crisp white uppers that feature the Air Jordan 5 Retro’s signature premium stitching. Black laces criss-cross through black eyelets and converge at a clear and purple lace lock. Stitched-on No. 23s in neon colors embellish the lateral sides of each shoe, echoing the same neon tones featured on the heel’s Jumpman insignia.
From tracksuits and cropped tees to sideways ball caps and neon jerseys, Will Smith embodied all that throwback ’90s style that’s making a comeback. Regal purple swaths the shoe’s midsole, with speckled neon pink and royal blue zig zags licking the sides. Neon yellow and icy translucent blue adorn the basketball shoe’s outsole for moves as smooth as the Fresh Prince. Although, if you plan on really starting the party, the grippy traction of the outsoles allows for the Carlton Dance too. A colorful, graffiti-style sockliner keeps the vintage-style theme going. Will Smith has been a longtime fan of the Jordan brand, sporting the unlaced sneaks on his signature show and beyond.
