Sneakers Release – Jordan 5 Retro “Raging Bull”/ “Toro” Colorway Drops April 10

Mar 30, 2021

Michael Jordan was all power, speed and pure athleticism during his time as a collegiate and pro basketball player. As a result, his playing style held up to the age-old adage “mess with the bull, you’ll get the horns.” You didn’t mess with MJ.

These days, His Airness is enjoying his well-earned retirement, but the Air Jordan 5 Retro “Toro” or “Raging Bull” is dusting off its suede uppers and getting back in action after a 12-year hiatus from the Jordan Retro line. The red hot “University Red/Black/White” Retro 5 launches Saturday, April 10, in toddler, preschool, grade school kids’ and men’s sizes.

While the original “Raging Bull” Jordan 5 releases as part of the Toro Bravo Pack in 2009, the new “Raging Bull” colorway is a solo offering. That means you won’t get the special collectible wooden box or the accompanying black “3M” shoe that launched with it back in 09. However, the look and feel are the same — most noticeably, the “University Red” suede upper, a color that was inspired by the Chicago Bull’s team colors His Airness wore for 14 years.

Translucent quarter panel netting lines the side, while black molded eyelets add a striking departure from the primarily red upper. An embroidered dual-tone “23” is stitched on the sneaker’s heel counter — a nod to the Black Cat’s holy number. On the back heel and tongue, Jordan Brand’s signature Jumpman logo defiantly highlights MJ’s iconic leap. Adding even more bite is a signature shark teeth design in red and white along the midsole.

Along the lace guard, a clear lace lock keeps you tied up as you sprint after the ball. Other touches include a silver tongue and milky white outsole that will help you reach gravity-defying new heights.

Designer Tinker Hatfield was one of MJ’s greatest collaborators, so it’s no surprise he had a hand in this beloved classic. His inspiration for the Jordan 5 Retro was a World War II P-51 fighter jet. It’s easy to see this with the sleek profile and clean lines of the silhouette (and in the shark tooth pattern mentioned earlier.)

Inside the shoe, you’ll find several features to help you charge down the court. The Air unit under the heel and forefoot gives you lightweight cushioning whether you’re going up for a jump shot or stampeding back on defense. There’s even a foam midsole for extra support during a long game.

Are the new “Raging Bull” AJ 5 Retro kicks too hot to handle? We’ll let you be the judge. Grab a pair for the whole family in toddler, preschool, grade school kids’ and men’s sizes starting April 10 online or at your local Hibbett | City Gear.
