The Jordan XXXVII “Light Bone/Fire Red/Black” men’s and grade school kids‘ basketball shoe drops September 15 at Hibbett | City Gear.

It’s hard to believe that the first Air Jordan dropped 37 years ago. The brand has religiously released a new model every year since, meaning we’re now in our 37th iteration of the infamous kick.

The Jordan 37 “Beyond Borders” shoe was a collaborative effort between the Nike Sport Research Lab and Chad Troyer, senior product line manager. What makes it different from previous releases? It focuses on all three aspects of jumping, not just flight: crash, load and launch. It’s dropping in men’s and grade school kids‘ sizes on September 15.

A white leno-weave upper covers most of this shoe. It may seem a bit familiar—that’s because it was inspired by the Air Jordan 7 and mimics the weaving techniques of a West African basket. This mesh is lightweight to help you soar, but it also features white plastic ribbon across the middle that gives you necessary support.

Gray eyestays hold the navy laces in place over a black tongue, which just features a tiny red Jumpman. More intriguing is the back of the tongue, which is purple and spells out the words “Air Jordan” in black. At the heel, you’ll see a black tongue tab featuring MJ’s iconic signature, along with another Jumpman above. Beneath this is a milky gray insert with orange showing through underneath.

Though you can’t see it, the chunky white midsole is packing Formula 23 foam encased in TPU to make every landing soft. A midfoot carbon fiber plate and forefoot Zoom Air unit offer additional launching power. On the outsole is where the real color shines. Red, purple and yellow shapes decorate the traction pattern, along with an oversized Jumpman soaring on the heel.

As far as basketball shoes go, this is Jordan’s most advanced model yet. The transparent mesh with hints of the three primary colors mean you can really wear this with any blue, red or yellow accents. Try navy crew socks and a yellow shirt for a cohesive look, or go all red and black with basketball shorts and a tank for a mean look that will have your opponents cowering in fear. For being a modern basketball shoe, the Air Jordan 37 “Beyond Borders” sure is able to mimic the vibe and aesthetic of the early ’90s NBA.
