While kids today might not personally remember the glory of seeing Michael Jordan win his second championship in 1992, that doesn’t mean they can’t embrace the past.

The Retro Air Jordan 7 Sky “Barely Grape” colorway that launches in grade school kids, toddler kids, and preschool kids sizes on January 24 is an exclusive kids’ sneaker that lets them walk in the shoes MJ did when he won in 1992 — just with some 2023 updates. The color scheme of black, Barely Grape and Rush Fuchsia is dark and fierce in all the right ways.

A satiny leather black upper is draped with more matte black overlays. These are stitched in place with white thread that really pops. You’ll see these overlays across the middle, wrapping over the ankle and at the heel. Surrounding these overlays on the forefoot are ventilation holes.

Black laces straps over a black tongue for a very monochromatic vibe. This is broken up by the white Air Jordan branding on the tongue. The back of the tongue as well as the ankle padding is a bright lilac color that looks like a blossoming flower.

There are other touches of lilac throughout, mainly on the “23” logo on the heel. You’ll also see it on the midsole, which resembles mountainous peaks in the distance. The top of the peaks is purple, while the bottom is white. These mountains sprout at both the heel and the forefoot.

The rest of the midsole is black, as is the outsole beneath. However, there are a few fun touches embedded into the tread, such as a purple Jumpman on the heel and white and purple triangular shapes throughout.

Kids will love wearing these sneakers with jeans and their favorite Jordan hoodie. While we wouldn’t recommend gaming with these shoes, they’d be good enough for exploring the playground with friends when paired with basic crew socks and black shorts.
