The Jordan 3 Retro “Dunk on Mars” White/Black/Mars Stone/Team Orange shoe drops in grade school, preschool and toddler sizes January 27 at Hibbett | City Gear.
Nike has been on a Mars kick lately — the brand just dropped a women’s exclusive Jordan 5 Retro “Mars for Her” — and now it looks like they want the whole family to be involved. The Air Jordan 3 Retro “Dunk on Mars” uses shades of Mars Stone, Team Orange, black and white to craft a shoe that’s perfectly suited for exploring our friendly neighbor planet.
A tumbled white leather upper looks slightly vintage, as if the shoe was part of the original 1988 release. This covers most of the shoe, but a creamy suede overlay is just above the midsole. There’s also a brown elephant print overlay above the midsole at the toe, ankle and heel.
Bright orange ventilated eyestays definitely harken back to the Mars mood, while crisp white laces keep things grounded on Earth. While the tongue is gray and ventilated under the laces, it transitions to white at the top and features a black embroidered Jumpman.
The orange insoles and ankle collar give way to a darker orange heel padding at the back. There’s also a creamy heel clip featuring a large Air Jordan Jumpman logo in black.
The front half of the midsole is cream, but it changes to maroon near the heel. You’ll also notice the peek-a-boo Air unit in the heel. Under all this is a black midsole that’ll hopefully keep too much Mars dirt from showing.
This shoe was supposedly inspired by the concept of “What If Mars Blackmon Dunked On Mars?”, and because of that, we think it would look best paired with late ’80s nostalgia. Little ones will fit right in with baggy jeans and a colorful windbreaker with graffiti-inspired accents. You might also match them up with denim on denim — jeans paired with a jean jacket.
