The New Balance Kawhi 2 “Coal” men’s basketball shoe launches July 15 at Hibbett | City Gear.

Kawhi Leonard came to New Balance in 2018 after abandoning his former partnership with Jordan Brand, and since then, the move has been extremely beneficial. We’re now on the second iteration of his signature line, the Kawhi 2—and it looks like the new release is gonna have an epic and fresh colorway.

The Kawhi 2 in black and white is a stunning mix of color blocking. This shoe—which is leading the evolution of the New Balance Hoops brand—hits stores on July 15 in men’s sizes.

Unlike previous drops of the Kawhi 2, which were mostly pastel and white, this shoe goes big and bold with a mostly black upper crafted of Fit Weave Lite. This is a type of data-driven thread application that gives you extra movement control, and you’ll see a physical reminder of this with the Fit Weave Lite logo in black on the medial ankle. It’s coated with nylon layers lining the toe box and lateral middle and heel.

At the tip of the toe, you’ll find a white toe guard—perfect for keeping you from smashing your feet as you crash to the basket. This matches the white laces, which feature a New Balance lace tag and strap up in black nylon eyelets. The black tongue transitions to white at the top and features oversized Kawhi branding in black outlined block letters. White ankle padding adds a final touch of contrast with the black.

The squiggly black FuelCell midsole has repeating wavy lines reminiscent of the ocean. These flow into straight lines the further from the middle you go. Along the forefoot and heel, this sole changes to white. You’ll see Kawhi’s signature on the lateral forefoot of the midsole, as well as the New Balance logo printed in black on a mountaintop overlay. The full-length outsole shank is a mix of white and black patches, along with the names of the planets in our solar system.

This shoe is a must-have for all ballers looking for tight movement control and cutting on the court. With the neutral black and white palette, we recommend going a bit more colorful with your attire.
