On December 15, Santa “Klaws” comes to town. Kawhi Leonard, aka “The Klaw,” drops his latest signature sneaker colorway — the New Balance “Kawhi for Christmas” sneaker. This icy blue and white rendition celebrates the best of the season with yeti-inspired details and some pretty cool technology, too. Kawhi Leonard is an NBA MVP and two-time champ. But these shoes leave no man out in the cold. Built for players of all ages and skill levels (no MVP status needed), the New Balance Kawhi features court-ready technology designed to keep feet cool and comfortable all winter long.
First, take a peep at the outsole of the Kawhi sneaker. Reminiscent of a pristine frozen tundra, the icy blue outsole of this shoe features a data-driven traction pattern. What does that mean, exactly? Code-like “squiggles” span the length of the translucent outsole, going from a looser pattern at the heel to tighter graphics at the forefoot for engineered precision. That pattern wraps around the sides of the forefoot, too, contributing to the durability of these sneakers. A full-length outsole shank delivers additional stability and bounce when and where you need it most.
The frosty blue outsole leads into a silver FuelCell foam midsole, which propels the whole package. The midsole’s TPU overlays mimic the triangular accents along the sides of the upper for a glacier-like appearance. A snow-white toe cap contributes durability to a high-wear area. The mesh upper on the Kawhi basketball sneaker comes in a light blue accented with shades of aqua.
A heel counter wraps around the heel’s sides and comes in a blue as shiny as a polished skating rink, crowned by a white 3D New Balance logo. Cutouts in the mesh sides reveal a gradient, data-generated pattern that matches the outsole’s traction and the shoe’s throat. Scale the lacing system, where the sneaker’s summit reveals a fresh layer of snow-white tongue featuring a yeti/Kawhi “Klaw” clutching an ice-cold-blue, light-strung basketball. A mesh inner lining gives way to the insole imprinted with a basketball Christmas tree and the “Santa Klaws” moniker.
