Nike knows how to throw one heck of a birthday party. Nearly 30 years after the release of the original Nike Air Max in 1987, it gifted us with the Nike Air VaporMax. A runner’s dream come true, this shoe takes cushioning to the next level with the first standalone, full-length outsole. Goodbye clunky rubber layer, hello beautiful transparency. You’ll feel like you’re floating on air, and since the outsole is see-through, you’ll look like it, too.
Four years after its initial release, it’s time for a new update to an already-trustworthy kick. The Nike Air VaporMax 2021 Flyknit drops in women’s sizes on June 24 in a brand new colorway. The Light Dew, Melon Tint and Arctic Punch shoe gives ladies the burst of speed they need to crush their PRs.
This follow-up to the shoe’s 2020 iteration is, at first glance, not too different. The biggest thing you’ll notice is the switch to traditional laces from the Flyease tightening system. All in all, this should make it much easier to get that snug fit you need down the home stretch. Nike has also bid adieu to the marbleized finish on the heel clips and toe cap by making them a transparent Light Dew hue.
Along the rest of the shoe, you’ll find the typical Flyknit upper that allows for excellent breathability even on longer runs, not to mention the super stretchy fit made of at least 40% recycled material by weight. It’s a mix of Light Dew and Arctic Punch that almost looks lilac from a distance. The trademark Swoosh on the side, as well as the tongue strap and heel tab, glow in a vibrant Melon Tint.
Fun fact: the VaporMax sole mold is composed of over 39,000 pieces. That’s more complicated than a car engine! You wouldn’t think that by looking at the streamlined, simple silhouette. Andreas Harlow, VP and Creative Director of Footwear Design for Nike Running, noted that their goal was to reduce as much as possible in the shoe, so it feels like you’re running on air.
What better way to celebrate the return of warm weather than with a colorful pastel shoe? The Nike Air VaporMax 2021 Flyknit in Light Dew, Melon Tint and Arctic Punch is like a party for your feet. Start celebrating on June 24, when you can grab these shoes in women’s sizes online or at your local Hibbett | City Gear.
The Nike N7 Summer 2025 collection is set to arrive at Hibbett, continuing its impactful mission of celebrating Indigenous communities across North America. This year's release integrates Native culture into essential sportswear, offering a powerful blend of heritage and contemporary design.
