Sneakers Release – Nike Kyrie 7 “Hyper Royal/Black/White” Women’s/Unisex and Kids’ Basketball Shoe

Nov 11, 2020

When Kyrie Irving sets foot on the court, fans know they’re in for a real treat. “Uncle Drew” always brings the heat and some serious swagger with his colorful sneaker offerings.

The newest shoe in the Irving lineup rolls out in a Royal, black and tan colorway for toddler, preschool and grade school sizes, while women’s/unisex sizes appear in a Hyper Royal, black and white edition. The Nike Kyrie 7 basketball sneaker drops on November 14 as part of Nike’s holiday season “Sisterhood of Sport” campaign.

Quick, fast and light — those were the guiding principles when Nike designer Benjamin Nethongkome and Irving teamed up for the Kyrie 7. Whether for playtime or game time, ballers of all ages can harness the precise control offered by the Kyrie 7’s traction pattern. A 360-degree, data-informed pattern zigs and zags underfoot for razor-sharp moves. The outsole’s pattern wraps up the shoe’s sidewall to help with directional changes and durability.

While the Kyrie 6 got plenty of press for its wide TPU strap with the all-seeing-eye logo, the 7 ditches that design feature in favor of two TPU “fingers” on either side of the shoe. Not only does this lighter-weight concept hold the foot securely in place, but the design element is also a nod to Irving’s father, who had him perform hand-strengthening exercises as a kid. The upper is crafted with composite mesh overlays embellished swirls of graphics and texture peeking out from beneath. The Kyrie 7 also ditches the oversized TPU heel piece in favor of a thinner, molded overlay.

The sneaker gets its shock absorption, energy return and speed thanks to technological features like the contoured Zoom Turbo unit in the forefoot. To be sure, this new shoe is much more streamlined than the 6 but still retains the flavor typical of Kyrie’s style. Other details integrated into the shoe include a subtle all-seeing-eye logo at the bottom of the laces, zig-zagging along the Zoom Turbo area and Irving’s mother and daughter’s names integrated into the sneaker.
