Sneakers Release – Nike Kyrie 7 “Rayguns” Men’s and Kids’ Basketball Shoe

Jan 25, 2021

Ever heard of the Roswell Rayguns? The year was 2002, and Nike was feeling creative with its campaigns. The brand put out 1970s, vintage-style commercials featuring a fictional basketball team, New Mexico’s Roswell Rayguns.

The commercials became a cult fave and several Nike shoes, like the SB Dunks and Air Force 1, launched Rayguns colorways. In 2021, Kyrie Irving is getting in on the Rayguns action, too with the release of the Nike Kyrie 7 “Rayguns” colorway, making its terrestrial debut on January 29 in grade school and men’s sizes.

Black, orange and a mustard-yellow give this sneaker an extraterrestrial feel, bolstered by the Roswell Rayguns’ alien logo adorning the shoe’s heel.

Black, hoops-inspired mesh coats the sneaker’s sides with a magma-orange and black pattern swirling just beneath. Black TPU “fingers” on either side of the lacing system come embossed with code-like graphics (alien messages, perhaps?), while a yellow outlined Swoosh fearlessly swoops along the shoe’s sides.

The molded heel overlay also comes in vibrant yellow, with the same raygun-yielding alien logo that matches the tiny extraterrestrial branding at the bottom of the lacing system.

A black, contoured Zoom Turbo unit wraps around the forefoot, allowing players to dip, dive, duck and dodge laser zaps from life or the game’s metaphorical raygun, while the sneaker’s white, computer-generated traction pattern allows for 360-degree movement, yielding players out-of-this-world grip.

Nike designer Benjamin Nethongkome designed the Kyrie 7 with lightweight, otherworldly comfort in mind. The “Rayguns” release gives players the ability to make gravity-defying plays with exceptional speed and precision without sacrificing the eclectic style and statement look Kyrie basketball shoes are known for.

Beginning January 29, search the night skies (or Hibbett.com) for the latest Nike x Kyrie Irving launch: the grade school boys’ and men’s Nike Kyrie 7 “Rayguns” colorway.
