Sometimes the best things lie just below the surface only to be revealed with time, and that may just be the case with the latest release from Jordan Brand, the “Taupe Haze” Air Jordan 4 Retro. It’s rumored that this basketball shoe has a hidden secret. The crackled Taupe Haze upper is designed to wear away to reveal the sneaker’s true colors and design elements. Launching February 27 at Hibbett | City Gear, these mysterious Jordan 4s drop in grade school kids’ and men’s sizes.
For now, though, the Retro Jordan comes dressed in a Taupe Haze-colored suede throughout it’s upper. A lower-nap suede composes the toe box and part of the shoe’s sides, while double-stitched-on overlays feature a higher-nap suede for even more nuance to this already textural sneaker.
Taupe Haze mesh netting along the sides and the shoe’s throat stands out against a black backdrop that ties into the sneaker’s other black features. Black laces are held in place by TPU wings at the top and bottom of the lacing system.
The front half of the shoe features a black midsole, and the heel piece comes in black, too. The balance of the midsole is a creamy, off-white Sail that frames out the Air unit. Infrared hits on the tongue tag, tongue lining and outsole provide an impactful counterbalance to the sneaker’s otherwise muted palette.
