In his 12 seasons playing in the NBA, Kevin Martin spent only two of those with the Houston Rockets — from 2010 to 2012. Still, during his relatively brief tenure with the team, the now-retired player sported a player-exclusive Air Jordan 13 that quickly became a fan favorite.
The latest from Jordan Brand is bringing back that AJ 13 PE with an Air Jordan 13 Retro “Red Flint” rendition. Coming to Hibbett | City Gear on May 1, this Rockets-eque Jordan Retro features hits of Gym Red, white, Flint Grey and Black and will be available in toddler, preschool, grade school kids’ and men’s sizes.
Supple white leather forms the sneaker’s base with large Gym Red reflective mesh panels — complete with the signature embroidered circles — dressing the sides. Low-nap Flint Grey suede appears just beneath the red overlays, running around the textured white midsole pods and coating the heel. The green holographic “eye” containing the No. 23 and the Jumpman logo rests along the shoe’s sides.
Underfoot, the predominantly black outsole includes white herringbone panels for zonal traction and small pockets of red for contrast. This black bottom ties nicely in with the generously sized tongue’s black Jumpman insignia and the Jordan tab at the bottom of the lacing system.
During the design process of the original Jordan 13, Tinker Hatfield scrawled the note: “Designed to fit, engineered to perfection and designed for basketball elegance” on one of his sketch pages. The player-exclusive-inspired palette achieves this trifecta … and then some.
