In the 1980s and 90s, leather basketball sneakers with rubber outsoles ruled the day. So when Nike introduced its original Foamposite shoes in 1997, the innovation disrupted the industry by breaking all the rules. Other than a small Swoosh located near the toe, the shoe let its futuristic molded synthetic upper and carbon plate speak for itself.

Earlier this year, Jordan Brand released an AJ1 in the Shattered Backboard colorway — a combination of basketball orange and sleek black. Like many of the Foamposite releases, which feature wild patterns and vibrant, out-of-this-world graphics, the Little Posite One and men’s Foamposite 1s take a much more futuristic approach to the Shattered Backboard aesthetic than the AJ1s. Heavy-handed black brushstrokes embellish the white molded upper, creating a just-smashed-glass backboard effect.
The shoes also come equipped with black lining and black details around the throat, at the heel tab and along the shoe’s lacing system. Like the OG Foamposites, Nike branding is minimal on the upper with small swooshes making an appearance near the lacing in orange embroidery.
The Little Posite One’s most apparent branding comes into play on the outsole where an oversized orange rubber Swoosh dominates the heel and midsole. The translucent outsole is embedded with strategically-placed textured black rubber, which provides plenty of traction and grip, so even those tiniest wearers can toddle along the sidewalk or gym floor with ease.
The Air Foamposite 1 men’s shoe differs slightly in that the Swoosh is absent from the sneaker’s outsole, which is mostly black, herringbone-patterned rubber surrounded by a translucent white perimeter.
A carbon fiber midfoot plate wraps the lateral and medial sides of the midfoot for all-around support, while a Zoom Air unit runs the length of the entire shoe for an all-day comfortable fit. Nike’s patented Foamposite material provides a custom feel at both the midsole and the upper. Over time, the material actually softens, contouring to your child’s (or your) foot.
Perfect for even the smallest sneakerheads, trendsetters, and basketball players, the hot new “Shattered Backboard” Black, Orange, and White shoe is the perfect sneaker to gift yourself and your little ones this holiday season.
