Innovation on land and the final frontier come together in the latest sneaker collab from adidas and the International Space Station Lab. This holiday season, grab a pair of the out-of-this-world adidas x ISS Ultraboost 20 sneakers in Core Black and Boost Blue. These “Space Race” shoes are sure to set the universe on fire with their cosmic color combo and their constellation of cutting-edge tech.
The Space Race running shoes will be available on December 6 in men’s and grade-school kids’ sizes both online and in-stores at your local Hibbett or City Gear.
In a continuous effort to push the boundaries of the brand, adidas has teamed up with one of the most technologically advanced objects in orbit, the International Space Station, to test the limits of adidas technology.
But the adidas x ISS Ultraboost 20 isn’t the first project the two super forces have collaborated on. Earlier this year, adidas sent soccer balls into space to test the brand’s sports gear in a microgravity setting. And in 2020, the brand plans to take its sneakers to the next frontier, too: They’ll send shoes to the ISS to explore Boost technology without the interference of gravity.
In addition to their stellar colorway, the adidas x ISS Ultraboost 20 “Space Race” shoes come packed with some of the finest engineering on earth. Thanks to the same motion-capture technology NASA uses for testing structural integrity of space shuttles, adidas obsessively studied the mechanics of the runner’s foot — how it’s built and where pressure and strain come into play during running.
The result was the original, sleek silhouetted Ultraboost sneaker.
The sneaker’s breathable adidas Primeknit+ upper hits all the right notes in terms of style and substance. Meanwhile, Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP) provides targeted areas of support and additional lateral stability in the upper. The TFP features strategically placed stitching that helps achieve a locked-down, sock-like fit.
The shoe gets a boost (literally and figuratively) from the super-responsive cushioning of the Boost midsole, which returns energy to the runner with each stride and provides just the right amount of firmness for impact protection. The Stretchweb outsole, featuring Continental Rubber, is where the rubber meets the road. Just like a car’s tires, these outsoles are a match for any running-surface conditions — snow, rain, heat, cold.
Clocking in at 10.9 ounces, these Ultraboost 20s allow for lightweight, easy lift-off, from the starting line to the finish line … and beyond.
So whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner, you’re competing in your first fun run, or you’re a budding NASA enthusiast, head into Hibbett this December for a pair of these earth-shattering adidas x ISS Ultraboost 20 sneakers in men’s and grade-school kids’ sizes.
