He’s the center for the Philadelphia 76ers, a native of Yaounde, Cameroon, and he dubbed himself “The Process.” Meet Joel Embiid, the three-time NBA All-Star who recently teamed up with Under Armour to create his own signature basketball sneaker line.
The Under Armour Embiid One drops on October 2 in an fitting “Origin” colorway and will be available in both men’s and grade school boys’ sizes.
Embiid’s nickname, “The Process,” is derived from a “trust the process” mentality, and his signature Under Armour basketball shoe is the perfect embodiment of that mentality. When collaborating with UA, Joel Embiid knew he wanted a lightweight sneaker that contributed to his on-court performance while also paying tribute to his African roots. The debut of the “Origin” sneaker checks all the boxes on his wishlist.
Both loose and tighter lightweight layers of black mesh dress the sneaker’s upper for maximum breathability. Fiery red and yellow TPU support wings rise from the shoe’s midsole and serve as eyestays for part of the cable lacing system. Other, more subtle black TPU accents reinforce the sides of the shoe for whole-foot stability.
When it comes to underfoot support, this sneaker employs Micro G foam in the forefoot. The patented UA technology offers a low-to-the-ground feel for explosive cuts on the hardwood. The shoe’s heel gets the HOVR treatment — an EnergyWeb-wrapped foam that provides unparalleled durability, impact absorption and energy return. The basketball shoe’s unique tread pattern illustrates Joel’s native land with its Africa-like outline and helps players of all ages and skill levels easily grip the court for precise movement.
The red, yellow and green tricolors of the Cameroonian flag cleverly integrate into the sneaker, with a Cameroon-like star on the heel tab and Embiid’s logo on the tongue.
Whether it’s on the court or in the classroom, this October 2, Under Armour invites you to discover your own origin story when you slip your feet into a pair of the UA Embiid One “Origin” sneakers. Find them in men’s and grade school boys’ sizes online and in-stores at Hibbett | City Gear.
