Since the Day of the Dead is Nov. 1, you'll have plenty of time to break in these shoes for your big celebrations. First things first — find the perfect lace situation. Both shoes feature plain white laces — the Authentic, with a half-lace vamp and low-top construction, and the Old Skool, with a full-lace vamp and higher ankle.
Also shared between the two? A black canvas upper that wraps around the entire shoe, along with beautiful Day of the Dead embroidery at various parts of the shoe.
On the Authentic, this embroidery pops at the toe. You'll notice a flower-eyed chihuahua bordered by two flower-eyed skulls on either side. There are also three bright yellow marigolds — the symbol of the day that's meant to attract the souls of the dead. These are bordered by green leaves and vines.
The Old Skool kicks things up a notch with embroidery on both the side panels and the heel. The side panel motif features an entire skeletal chihuahua, this time reclining in a field of marigolds and pink daisies. Two skulls with sunflower eyes act as the dog's companions, and the whole scene is surrounded by swirling vines.
The heel imagery more closely matches the logo from the Authentic shoe, with just the dog's profile surrounded by pink flowers.
Like all Vans shoes, these sneakers are meant for those casual moments in life. Pair them with jeans — black or dark denim preferred — and a colorful floral top to really embrace the occasion. Bonus points if you wear them with a traditional flowy Puebla dress!
