The Under Armour Shirt
The Under Armour shirt is the pinnacle of the brand. Founder Kevin Plank, a former special teams captain of the University of Maryland football team, started Under Armour in 1996 with the idea of turning the sports apparel world on its head. He did so by making a T-shirt with moisture-wicking, synthetic fabric to help keep athletes dry. Plank went on to perfect the design by creating shirts with microfibers that kept players cooler, drier and lighter than before.
The company took off after a handful of endorsements from athletes like Oakland Raiders quarterback Jeff George and Division I football teams NC State, Georgia Tech and Arizona State.
The Athlete’s Brand
After revolutionizing the sportswear industry with its first shirt prototype, Under Armour quickly expanded its products to include a variety of athletic gear (including off-field lifestyle sneakers). Under Armour shoes provided enhanced performance and greater comfort than competing products. Under Armour's footwear lines spanned from low-top trainers equipped with knit-and-mesh construction to the brand’s Primo line which featured a premium leather and waxed canvas upper.
Today, Under Armour offers everything from jackets and hoodies to leggings and shorts, along with accessories like bags, hats, gloves and team gear. Under Armour's roots in the sports and performance industries makes the brand the premier choice for serious athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
