Ever heard of the “no-look” dunk? In 1991, a rookie named Dee Brown squeezed his eyes shut, threw his right arm dramatically over his face and slammed the ball through the net to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. This spur-of-the-moment move by the Celtics guard garnered plenty of press when Brown won the contest, besting the likes of Shawn Kemp and, yes, even Michael Jordan.
The sneakers that helped him achieve those swish-worthy moves? The Reebok Pump Omni Zone II. Reebok was so stoked over Brown’s feat that they took out a full-page ad in USA Today. This year on March 6, Reebok is celebrating the 30th anniversary of this historic moment in basketball history with a Reebok Pump Omni Zone II “Dee Brown” release.
Swathed nearly completely in black, the sneaker gets hits of white and Wild Orange and drops in the same mid-cut design that Brown wore on dunk day.
Ballers from high school JV level to superstar status can pump, pump, pump it up with Reebok’s classic ’90s technology. The orange basketball-like inflatable chamber on Reebok Pump Omni II’s tongue allows players to customize their sneaks’ fit by inflating or deflating the shoe’s inner lining. Embroidered Reebok Basketball branding rests below the Pump in white thread, which stands out against the all-black lacing system.
The black, full-grain leather upper includes textile and synthetic appointments for a luxe court shoe. A lateral TPU cage curves around the foot for stability, while a white, hoops-inspired mesh wraps the plush, padded collar.
“No-See” Dee Brown may have long ago hung up his jersey, but his legacy lives on through these collectible black, white and Wild Orange Reebok Pump Omni Zone II kicks. Grab the 30th-anniversary men’s basketball shoe beginning March 6 at Hibbett | City Gear.
