The Jordan 5 Retro “Martian Sunrise/Black/Fire Red” women’s shoe drops January 14 at Hibbett | City Gear.
The Air Jordan 5 “Mars for Her” is a women’s exclusive colorway that turns up the spice. Outfitted in shades of Martian Sunrise, Fire Red and black, it seems to be directly inspired by our red-tinged planetary neighbor. And you won’t have to wait a light-year to get it, either, as it drops on January 14.
Word on the street is that this shoe also took notes from the Mars Blackmon character from Spike Lee’s Air Jordan commercials in the ’80s and ’90s. We can definitely see that vibe with the hearty dose of red used here. Premium red-orange Tyvek suede leather covers most of the upper — perhaps mimicking the dusty surface of Mars.
The ventilation panels across the middle are a lighter sand color. Beside these panels and below the ankle on the lateral side is a red and black “23” emblem. On the heel overlay is a black embroidered Jumpman. Red-orange laces strap into black eyestays. There’s also a translucent sand lace toggle beneath the silver tongue. This tongue features black backing as well as a matching Jumpman.
What really makes this shoe stand out is the midsole. Most of it is classic black, except for two key areas. There’s a flame emblem on the lateral forefoot of the shoe that makes it look like you’re blazing with each step. And of course, there’s the iconic see-through Air unit at the heel.
Underfoot, the gummy outsole features an embedded red Jumpman on the forefoot, as well as a black Jordan panel at the midfoot.
These days, Jordans don’t make the best basketball shoes, so we recommend limiting these to the streets. They’d look sick paired with printed jeans or leggings for a true mashup of color. Or, go full space woman with a metallic blazer that matches the silvery tongue.
