Discover why Nike Shox technology is trending again. Explore the history of the R4 and TL, the science of mechanical cushioning, and how to style it.
Women's Nike Shox Shoes put visible cushioning columns at the center of the design, in three retro shapes made for everyday wear. Each model has its own profile and construction, so weigh the look you want against the cushioning, upper and heel support each one offers. For every Shox style across audiences, see Nike Shox.
Start with the cushioning look: if you would rather show visible Air than columns, compare the women's Nike Air Max Dn, and if you want a different Nike shape altogether, see women's Nike sneakers.
The columns are the headline, but plates, uppers and outsoles change from model to model.
On the women's Shox TL, full-length Nike Shox technology combines resilient, flexible columns with moderator plates that compress and regain their shape. The Shox Z uses Nike Shox columns for resilient cushioning in a lower profile. On the R4, Nike describes the columns as giving responsive cushioning.
A TPU plate in the heel, between the midsole and the Shox columns, helps provide lateral stability and support on the TL. Molded overlays through the midfoot add support and a snug fit.
The Shox Z has a textile upper that Nike describes as light and breathable, with synthetic leather accents that channel original Shox style. The TL uses a combination upper with breathable mesh and a full TPU cage. The R4 has a synthetic and textile upper with laser perforations that Nike says provide ventilation.
The Shox Z sits on a modified, circular Waffle outsole that Nike says gives durable traction, and the R4 has a modified, circular waffle outsole that Nike says gives traction. The TL lists a rubber outsole.
The Nike Shox Z runs from neutral greys, khaki and white with metallic silver or gold to bolder Fire Red, University Red and Light Magenta looks, and the Shox Z SE adds multi-color and burgundy versions. The Shox TL mostly pairs metallic silver with platinum, brown, cream and black, plus a Particle Rose look. The Shox R4 mixes Particle Rose or black with Light Magenta, Racer Blue and metallic silver.

The TL, Z and R4 are built on different shapes, so size can differ between them. Sizing can vary from one model to the next, so check the Hibbett size chart before you order.
The visible columns are the statement, so simple outfits let them stand out. Neutral greys and metallic silver pairs go with almost anything, while red or magenta pairs work as the bright piece.
Nike sells all three as everyday sneakers, not running shoes. The R4's columns were first designed to support runners' stride, and Nike pitches the TL for impact absorption and a bold look on the streets.
Brush off loose dirt, then go over the upper with a mild cleaning solution and a soft brush or damp cloth, working with the grain on knit or mesh and never using bleach. Leave the pair to dry naturally at room temperature and keep it out of the washing machine.
