8 MUST-HAVE BASEBALL ACCESSORIES BEFORE YOU HIT THE DIAMOND

1. BATTING GLOVES

Worn by the batter to keep better grip on the bat. Gloves come in nylon mesh or Spandex back for breathability. Velcro enclosures give a snug fit, while palm is usually made from deerskin or sheepskin for durability. Additional padding may decrease vibrations.

2. BAT BAG

Carrying case for all equipment that comes in different sizes and styles. Bat bags hold at least two bats, gloves, balls, batting gloves, warm-up jacket, shoes and more. Some bags are designed to hang anywhere for easier access.

3. HEART GUARDS

A relatively new technology often built into a compression shirt that provides a plastic or polypropylene shield over the chest area.

4. GLOVE CONDITIONER

Protects the glove against dirt and grime to extend its longevity.

5. GLOVE-STRINGING KITS

These kits — available in black and brown leather — include a metal stringing needle or hook, and enough leather to restring a glove.

6. SCOREBOOKS

Keep up with scores and individual stats. Books come in 16- and 18-player formats.

7. PINE TAR RAG

Batter rubs the rag along the bat handle to provide better bat control. Used for wooden bats.

8. ROSIN BAGS

Another way to obtain better grip by creating a sticky film on the player’s hands. Also available in powder form poured from a can.
