Our Story: Who Owns Hibbett Sports?

It all started in Birmingham, Alabama, known as the Magic City for its rich legacy of industry, transportation and steel. Since our 1945 founding, we’ve grown from just a sports retailer to a go-to across the country for generations of athletes, sports enthusiasts and fans, and sneakerheads. In April 2024, UK-based retail giant JD Sports Fashion acquired Hibbett for $1.1 billion. Today we have more than 1,000 stores spread out across the country, offering wider access to your favorite sneakers. Despite the JD Sports acquisition, our company continues to operate independently under the leadership of CEO Jared Briskin, who assumed the role in February 2025 after his predecessor retired, and we’ve maintained our headquarters in Birmingham.

Hibbett Gives Back

At Hibbett, we invest in our communities. And that’s not just a marketing strategy. We believe in community and the power of giving back to the places where we — and our customers — live, work and play. 

Our Sole School program supports underserved schools and athletic programs in their neighborhoods. In 2023, we donated more than $330,000 to more than 100 schools across the country. For the past three years we’ve partnered with Nike for our Support Her Sole™ program, with shopping events, seminars and guest speakers that encourage Gen Z and millennials to knock down barriers they face as women in women’s basketball. We’ve also worked with the Jordan brand in giving back to St. Louis, Missouri, programs that included the Jayson Tatum Foundation and Wohl Center leadership team.

Does Hibbett take Afterpay? 

We don’t currently accept AfterPay, but we do have Klarna as a payment option. Learn more about that here. 

Does Hibbett price-match?
