Celebrate Earth Day 2024 with Sustainable Brands

Apr 15, 2024

Every year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day, a global call to action to protect our planet. While Earth Day 2024 is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about environmental issues, taking care of our planet requires year-round effort. More and more brands are realizing this, too, as they continue to integrate sustainability into their operations — all while offering stylish threads and sneakers.

At Hibbett, we’re proud to support the efforts of sustainable clothing brands like Nike, The North Face and adidas because of their commitments to using recycled materials, reducing their carbon footprint and eliminating waste. Here are a few brand initiatives we’re celebrating this Earth Day.

Recycled & Reused by The North Face

Classic fit and recycled polyester make this hat easy to wear with literally anything. The North Face has already established initiatives to create sustainable products, such as its Renewed Collection and Clothes the Loop program. The brand plans to use 100% recycled, regenerative or responsibly sourced renewable fabrics for apparel by 2025, with sustainable shoes and equipment following in 2030.

Sustainability with the Swoosh

Innovation with an eye toward the environment is nothing new for Nike. Its Move to Zero campaign embodies a commitment to net-zero carbon emissions and zero waste. By 2025 alone, they plan to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, divert 100% of waste from landfills and reduce freshwater usage in the textile finish process. Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe initiative also gives old shoes new lives through Nike Grind, which converts the retired footwear into new products, playgrounds, running tracks and basketball courts.

Products like their fleece-tapered Dri-FIT running pants are made with sustainable cotton and polyester materials to help keep moisture away. And shoes like the VaporMax 2023 Flyknit are made up of at least 20% recycled content by weight.

Birkenstocks Raise the Bar

Birkenstocks Raise the Bar

You can feel good about slipping on a pair of Boston clogs. Birkenstock has long been an eco-friendly leader, sourcing sustainable materials such as cork, natural latex, leather, wood, felt, copper and brass. In fact, 98% of the adhesives used to create Birkenstock products are water-based. The sustainable shoe brand also continually works to improve its production processes, packaging and logistics.

Green Up with LRG

Green Up with LRG

You know them as one of your favorite streetwear brands because their hoodies, tees and joggers are just that good. But LRG is much more than bright colors and comfortable fabrics. The sustainable clothing brand uses organic cotton and recycled polyester in order to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions. And that’s not all! Their California-based HQ runs on 100% renewable energy. Plus, LRG is a certified California Green Business, meaning their operations are super energy efficient, they conserve water, divert waste and incorporate sustainability efforts into their work community.

Here’s to HOKA!

Here’s to HOKA!

You love your Cliftons and your Bondis — and their insane, cloud-like comfort. But did you know that more than 99% of all HOKA footwear styles contain either recycled, renewed or naturally sourced material? The brand’s sustainability initiatives also include lowering carbon emissions, continuing to use recycled paper in their packaging and using fewer natural resources by 2030.

We’re All in This Together

While we’ve highlighted just a few shoe and sustainable clothing brands, many others — from Timberland and New Balance to UGG and Under Armour — are all making big moves to reduce their environmental impact. No matter how big or how small, these changes help push forward the Earth Day movement to ensure the sustainability of our planet.
