The adidas Trae Young 1 “Atlanta Hawks” Vivid Red/Team Gold/Black men’s basketball shoe launches April 24 at Hibbett | City Gear.

This year has already been big for Trae Young. In addition to repping his team, the 23-year-old is now only the second player to lead the NBA in total points and total assists. It’s fitting then that “Ice Trae’s” latest adidas sneaker comes outfitted in his team’s colors.

Like Young himself, these shoes are packed with flair. Gradient colors of the upper give the colorway a look similar to that of the 1995–1999 Hawks road uniform — minus the cheesy hawk image. A plush mesh upper begins in the signature red, transforming into black as the color extends along the silhouette. Red suede embellishments appear at the heel, the unconventional eyestays and lacing overlay.

Team Gold suede reinforces high-wear areas at the toe and lateral side of the shoe, an intersection of design-meets-function. Oversized black heel and tongue tabs bear Trae Young branding — his logo on the latter and his signature on the heel tab.

The adidas Lightstrike midsole lands in black with gold speckling and couples with energy-returning Boost technology. These comfort features work with the internal lacing system to strike the right balance of stability and lockdown. adidas Three Stripes branding also appears throughout the sneaker.

The shoe’s outsole includes jagged, lightning-style traction at the forefoot, moving into a less chaotic — though every bit as impactful — pattern of lines and concentric circles at the midfoot and heel for zonally tuned precision on the court. The heel’s center area gives the wearer a window into the foam boost pellets.

The future is now, and recycled materials comprise parts of these Trae Young 1 shoes as part of adidas’ ongoing commitment to making its products more sustainable.
