What happens when you mix a star NBA player, a new basketball sneaker, a trusted brand and a trendy record label?
Meet the adidas Trae Young 1, a performance basketball shoe tailor-made for agility, comfort and containment on the paint. Launching November 5, this shoe is a collab between the Three Stripes and Jermaine Dupri’s Atlanta-based So So Def Recordings. Available in men’s sizes, the Trae Young 1 comes in both an “Atlanta” colorway and a black-and-white colorblocked rendition with hits of Solar Red.
Both sneakers incorporate recycled materials into the upper textile and glean inspiration from the adidas N3XT L3V3L shoe and Trae’s personality.
The black and white shoe starts with a predominantly white mesh base. Black zigzags along the top and sides of the sneaker, with black overlays locking down the laceless construction, and black tongue and heel tabs. An S-shaped heel counter molds around the foot for stability and control.
Boost technology characterizes the heel end of the blocky midsole, reminiscent of a ’90s basketball sneaker. Podular Lightstrike cushioning, meanwhile, keeps feet as fresh as some of So So Def’s hip-hop hits of the mid-aughts.
Trae Young’s logo embellishes the tongue pull tab with So So Def branding appearing at the heel and the shoe’s insole. The “Atlanta” colorway offers all the vibrancy of a So So Def Recordings billboard, mixing it up with a bright orange outsole with its aggressive traction pattern. Neon green dresses the upper, tempered with thick black accents.
