Michael Jordan’s first shoe ever, the Air Jordan 1, has a pretty illustrious history. Released in 1985, it helped the GOAT cement his place in basketball history. While you’ll be hard-pressed to snag an OG colorway (they go for over $500,000 at auction), you CAN indulge your classic sneaker craving with a retro version.

Your next chance at copping one of these grails is coming May 15 with the release of the Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Shadow 2.0” colorway. You’ll find the newest Jordan Retro “Black/Smoke Grey/White” iteration in both men’s and grade school kids’ sizes.

This new release takes everything you love about the original kicks and plays on the previous “Shadow” colorway, which was released in 2018. You’ll notice a Black leather base with Smoke Grey nubuck surrounding the perforated toe box and along the heel, padded ankle collar and black laces. Of course, there’s also a stitched Smoke Grey Swoosh along the middle.

Jordan branding at the ankle guard includes the black imprint of a basketball with wings — the original logo of the Jordan line before the Jumpman became standard. It drew its inspiration from Jordan’s high-flying moves and the flight badges worn by pilots.

There’s also a traditional white Nike Air Swoosh on the black tongue. A White midsole contains Air cushioning to make even the most intense game a little more comfortable for your feet. Beneath this, the Black rubber outsole with a concentric pattern offers great traction for pivots and fast movements.

When designing the original Jordan 1, Peter Moore’s main goal was to create a basketball shoe that could handle Jordan’s powerhouse moves while still being unique. And he did just that while also listening to Jordan’s suggestions to simplify the Air cushioning for a lower profile. The result was a shoe — just like His Airness — that has gone down in history.

The Jordan 1 Smoke Grey “Shadow 2.0” colorway drops May 15 exclusively in men’s and grade school boys’ sizes. As one of the hottest sneaker releases of the year, pairs won’t be up for grabs for long. Want to know how to give yourself your best chance at bagging some for yourself?
