During Michael Jordan’s last year in the NBA, he earned himself and the Chicago Bulls one more championship title — making it the second time he three-peated in his career. While the GOAT didn’t need any special shoes to help him dominate, the Air Jordan 13 certainly didn’t hurt.

On October 1, the championship-winning Jordan 13 silhouette drops in a Retro “Black/Lilac” grade school and preschool girls’-exclusive colorway at Hibbett | City Gear.

This shoe was specifically designed to represent MJ’s cat-like reflexes on the court. Tinker Hatfield took inspiration from the panther when creating the shoe. The sole of the shoe was meant to mimic a panther’s paw print, while the reflective holograms on the ankle represented a pouncing cat’s glowing eyes.

While the OG shoe only had seven colorway releases, the retro version has 27 — and counting. Joining that number soon will be a lilac and black colorway for girls. It’s a much-needed expansion of the typically male-dominated line (there’s only one other women’s colorway, released in 2018).

Girls finally get to follow in the footsteps of their favorite player. These shoes are a great symbol of the intersection between street and basketball cultures. Little ones will look both cute and tough as they wear these with matching athletic sets. They’d also look great with leggings or even a skirt as your little one marches down the school hallway.
