As things heat up this summer, the Jordan brand kicks it up another notch with its latest grape edition — the “Alternate Grape.”
The original Air Jordan 5 “Grape” debuted in 1990, a white leather shoe lined with Grape at the midsole and along the tongue and throat. The Air Jordan 5 Retro “Alternate Grape,” however, boldly goes where the OG didn’t dare. A vibrant purple Grape Ice color saturates the sneaker, while notes of clear, black and New Emerald play out along the bottom and the tongue. The AJ 5 Retro “Alternate Grape” drops July 7 and will be available in a range of men’s sizes.
The upper of this latest sneaker gets a purple suede treatment, creating a textural masterpiece that adds depth to a shoe already brimming with it. Black covers the throat, oversized tongue, lacing system, eyestays and sockliner, bisecting the purple upper. The Jumpman branding at the tongue, lace toggles and insole all get the lighter New Emerald treatment. The AJ 5 Retro signature side cutouts include a gray mesh, while the toothlike pattern along the midsole comes in New Emerald — similar to the OG “Grape” colorway.
Clear casing around the lace locks echoes the sneaker’s icy translucent outsole — a traction-enhancing piece of rubber perfect for quick cuts in and out of traffic. With the Air Jordan 5 Retro signature Tinker Hatfield design and technology — including the foam midsole with visible Air-Sole unit and additional Airbag in the forefoot — this sneaker is the perfect fanciful twist on a beloved original.
Beginning July 7, sneakerheads and basketball players alike can snag a pair of the men’s “Grape Ice/New Emerald” Air Jordan 5 sneakers. Be sure to stop by your local Hibbett | City Gear, or browse our full selection of men’s Air Jordan 5 Retro releases at Hibbett.com.
