The Jordan 5 Retro “Black/Aquatone/Taxi” drops in men’s, grade school kids’, preschool kids’ and toddler kids’ sizes February 4 at Hibbett | City Gear.
The Nike Air Jordan Retro 5 “Aqua” is like a tranquil pool in midsummer with shades of Aquatone, Taxi and black. If it looks like a familiar color palette, that’s because the colorway is a tribute to the popular AJ8 colorway from 1993, and it also closely resembles the AJ 5 PE “Hornets” colorway.
Black suede covers most of the upper, with monochromatic overlays sewn on across the middle and heel. The middle also features a large cutout with translucent netting inside. On all shoes but the toddlers’, matte black eyestays hold the black laces in place. The toddlers’ shoe has eyelet holes instead. There’s more translucent netting under the laces, but at the top, the tongue transitions to a silvery gray. A bright aqua embroidered Jumpman soars toward the hoop at the top. There’s also an aqua lace toggle with a clear guard.
The back of the tongue is the same aqua-blue color with a black Air Jordan tag, but the ankle padding transitions back to black. At the heel, there’s another embroidered aqua Jumpman. The black midsole has the usual shark teeth accents at the midfoot — this time in an edgy yellow with aqua splatter. Beneath that is an aqua patch, and you’ll see another one on the heel.
Of course, there’s a peek-a-boo Air unit in the heel on the men’s and grade school kids’ shoes though this is absent from the preschool and toddler shoes. The bottom of the shoe features an icy aqua and black outsole with a black Jumpman embedded in the transparent forefoot.
These shoes have a very ‘90s vibe, so they might look nice with some retro style touches. Black crew socks with baggy jean shorts and an oversized tee could keep things fresh. Or embrace the basketball vibes with basketball shorts and your favorite vintage player shirt.
Dive into the Nike Air Jordan Retro 5 “Aqua” for a refreshing change in your wardrobe.
