Want a lightened-up take on a heritage Jordan colorway? No problem! How about a predominantly white shoe with touches of that grape-purple Dark Concord and hits of black? The new Air Jordan 5 Retro “Concord” releases Aug. 6 at Hibbett | City Gear. Be sure to cop a pair of these men’s kicks to complement your back-to-school fits, weekend outings and everyday wear.
The AJ 5 got its beginnings in 1990 as a classic game shoe. This Tinker Hatfield-conceived design took inspo from toothsome World War II-era fighter planes. You’ll find the aviation-inspired jagged edges chewing along the AJ 5 Retro’s black midsole in a Concord tone.
In fact, this iteration of “Concord” gives whiffs of one of the first four OG colorways of the Air Jordan 5. The original “Grape” incorporates a purple tongue with hits on the outsole — a grail for many sneakerheads.
While that “Grape” release had a distinctly 1990s hoops look and feel, the 2022 “Concord” edition offers a more modern, sophisticated palette. White leather with tonal quarter-panel cutouts and white laces provide a fresh backdrop. The oversized tongue, meanwhile, takes on a 3M silvery grey that not only reflects in the dark, but also sets the stage for a Dark Concord-colored, bump-out Jumpman. Purple sockliner fabric outlines the tongue and ankle, and purple lace locks add to the overall vibe of the shoe.
Visible Air in the heel with encapsulated Air contained in the forefoot, along with the black and icy translucent outsole, contribute to both cushioned comfort and anytime, anywhere traction.
