The Jordan 7 Retro “Black/Citrus/Varsity Red” colorway drops in men’s, grade school, preschool and toddler sizes August 13 at Hibbett | City Gear.
The year was 2006. Everyone was playing Wii tennis for the first time, Google bought YouTube, and a heat wave overtook much of the U.S. and Europe. Oh, and the Jordan brand released its AJ 7 in a “Citrus” colorway — a predominantly black shoe with fresh-squeezed bursts of orange and red.
We may again find ourselves in a summer of sweltering temps, but the first retroed version of the “Citrus” shoes provide a welcome respite from the heat. Sneakerheads of any age can cop a pair of the Jordan 7 Retros. These shoes were revived from the archives as part of the ongoing commemoration of 30 years of the AJ 7.
Juicy Citrus and spicy University Red enliven the otherwise black sneaker along the midsole, stitching and branding. Velvety-soft black nubuck informs much of the shoe’s construction, with Citrus stitching outlining the upper’s overlays. Satiny black material forms the tongue, with “Jordan” spelled out in red.
Mountains of color play along the midsole, their jagged peaks swathed in Citrus and University Red. Citrus-colored embroidered Jumpmen adorn the lateral ankle. The Citrus and black triangular heel emblem features a University Red No. 23 with elongated red heel tab, which matches the AJ 7 Retro’s inner lining.
A foam midsole and full-length Nike Air technology contribute to the shoe’s lightweight cushioning and all-day wearability. The black rubber outsole takes on the AJ 7’s typical Swiss-cheese, geometric approach — all circular traction patterns and colorful triangulation.
