Debuting during the 1991-1992 season, the Air Jordan 7 was a popular addition to the Air Jordan lineup. Michael Jordan stacked up some impressive accolades wearing the shoe that season: NBA MVP, Finals MVP, an NBA championship, and a gold medal at the Olympics.
The shoe was retro-ed in 2002 to much fanfare, and while we’ve seen a lot of fun colorways over the years, it’s time for one of the most popular palettes to reemerge. The Jordan 7 Retro “Flint” colorway is hitting stores and virtual shelves on May 8 in toddler, preschool, grade school boys’ and men’s sizes.
Tinker Hatfield, the legendary designer, intended this shoe to be a lifestyle colorway for the true sneakerhead. It’s built to look fresh with White tumbled leather panels wrapping across the upper. Patches of suede Flint Grey adorn the middle, toe box and ankle. The asymmetrical design keeps you on your toes whether you’re roaming the streets with friends or dominating in a pickup game.
For a brief flash of color, the Jumpman logo is embroidered in Varsity Purple on the outer ankle guard. You’ll also notice the same Varsity Purple on the number “23” on the heel and streaked through the outsole.
One thing that separates these AJ Retros from the rest of the pack is the lack of visible Air units. This was a departure from the first six iterations in the line. This makes the shoes lighter for a little more flexibility in your movements. Another cool fact? This was the first shoe to have no Nike branding anywhere — a step that paved the path for the separate Jordan Brand we know and love today.
A lot has changed since 2006, but it’s great to take a step down memory lane and embrace the chill vibes of the AJ 7 Retro kicks in the classic “Flint” colorway. And since they’re available in so many sizes, you can truly make your sneaker game a family affair. Grab this new release starting May 8 in toddler, preschool, grade school boys’ and men’s sizes online or at your local Hibbett | City Gear.
