While the Nike Air Max 97 debuted in 1997, it wasn’t until 1999 that one of its most famous colorways dropped. And now, we’re about to see a retro envisioning of this popular shade.

Glitter like gold in the Nike Air Max 97 “Gold Bullet,” available in both men’s and women’s sizes. The color scheme of Metallic Gold, Varsity Red, black and white is fit for a king or queen. The last time we’ve seen this colorway retroed was 2017, so it’s a long-overdue update. This style can be yours starting March 7.

This shoe shines like a ball on New Year’s Eve with an upper entirely outfitted in golden tones. The base of the shoe features a solid golden leather overlay that wraps around the upper. Above this is a repeating pattern of overlays of golden mesh and leather, creating a striped appearance. Some of these layers are made of 3M reflective material, meaning you’ll glow in the dark as well.

This design was originally inspired by Japanese bullet trains and is meant to invoke speed. Another speed-focused detail? The hidden laces system. Who needs bulky laces slowing you down? The golden laces hide beneath the upper’s waves and are locked in place with two vertical bands.

The golden tongue features a small black patch with a red Swoosh at the top. The back of the tongue is also black, as is the ankle padding, insole and heel tab featuring Air Max logos. All of these lux details sit atop a white midsole with a huge visible full-length Nike Air unit. Finally, the black outsole prevents any dirt or scruffs from ruining your first-place look.

These shoes certainly make a statement — so it’s up to you if you want them to be the centerpiece of your outfit or just an accent. For those wanting to keep it calm, pair them with black joggers and a neutral T-shirt. But to turn up the volume even more, go big with red leggings or jeans and a golden hoodie.

Dazzle your onlookers with the Nike Air Max 97 “Gold Bullet.” Grab it in both men’s and women’s sizes starting March 7, online or at your local Hibbett | City Gear.If you aren’t fast enough to snag them before they sell out, consult our sneaker launch calendar for other fun styles for men and women.
