Sneakers Release – Nike Air Max 97 OG “Metallic Silver/University Red/Black” Men’s, Women’s & Kids’ Shoes Dropping 11/11

Nov 2, 2022

One of the most infamous OG colorways of the Nike Air Max 97 was the “Silver Bullet.” Good news — the beloved style looks to be re-emerging as a close dupe in celebration of the model’s 25th birthday.

The Nike Air Max 97 “Silver Bullet” uses Metallic Silver, Varsity Red, white and black to create an unforgettable shiny kick. The original design was inspired by Japan’s bullet trains, and we can see why—this shoe is likely to speed into your closet. It’s tearing up the tracks starting November 11 in men’s, women’s and grade school kids’ sizes.

Little known fact — when designer Christian Tresser was creating the Air Max 97, he was also inspired by ripples in a pond and aluminum mountain bikes. You’ll see that right away with the wavy lines that cascade around the length of the upper. The whole upper is a mix of 3M reflective material and mesh, all draped in linear ripples to create a sense of movement.

Breaking up the ripples is a solid layer of silver leather that circles the shoe above the midsole. Across the middle, there’s a silver mesh panel featuring a Nike Swoosh in Varsity Red.

Silver laces weave inside hidden eyelets, giving the shoe even more of a streamlined look. The tongue branding features a black patch with a red Swoosh. There are also black tongue and heel tabs to help you pull the shoe on and off. The heel tab, in particular, has red outlining and the words “Air Max” in faded white.

All of this sits upon a white midsole. You’ll easily see the full-length Air Max sole unit with its transparent window. Beneath this is a black and white outsole that offers grip on basic surfaces.

Even with the futuristic color scheme, something about the chunkiness of this shoe just screams ’90s — so you might as well embrace it. Pair this with baggy jeans and a rainbow windbreaker to look fresh. Or, go with fitted black joggers and a jean jacket for something more simple.
