Lovers of Sir Charles are probably infinitely familiar with his signature shoe, the Nike Air Max CB 94. Since its most recent revival in 2020, fans have loved being able to add this 1994 throwback kick to their sneaker repertoire.
Nike stealthily dropped the OG colorway in men’s sizes throughout the second half of 2020 before the official drop, reviving a model that hasn’t been in production since 2015.
The Nike Air Max2 CB ’94 is dropping in a new “White/Varsity Purple” colorway October 1 in men’s sizes.
You’ll notice this shoe uses the same color scheme as the original version – white, black and purple – just in a different order. The synthetic leather upper is white with a black midsole and outsole combo. There’s also black along the laces and at the heel. The bright purple in triangle shapes on the outsole pops in this sea of neutral colors. You’ll also see a burst of purple at the top of the tongue and ankle padding.
Black Nike branding appears on the straightjacket-inspired support straps which run along the side of the shoe. There’s also a white Nike Swoosh on the side of the heel and a white Air Max graphic on the tongue and heel. What makes this shoe stand out on the court is the quick lace system with reinforced lace locks. Paired with the heel pull tab, this makes getting the shoes on and off a cinch.
You’ll notice the shoe has a certain brashness about it that’s a bit rougher than the sleek profile usually seen on basketball shoes. Designer Tinker Hatfield purposely did this, as the style was meant to represent Barkley’s expressive personality.
