Are your kids on the hunt for new sneakers that fit a big, bold and larger-than-life aesthetic? Then it’s time to get your hands on the latest colorway in the Nike Air More Uptempo lineup.
Beginning April 15, the Nike More Uptempos will drop in kids’ sizes toddler, preschool and grade school, in a white and Varsity Red color palette dubbed “Renowned Rhythm.” This is a coveted re-release of a 2018 colorway that features a predominantly white foundation with a Chicago Bulls-esque red outlining the upper’s “Air” overlays, playing out in the Air sole bubbles and adorning the Swoosh branding.
Nike designer Wilson Smith created these shoes to embody the mid-’90s — a time of chunky basketball kicks and in-your-face branding. Like the OG Uptempo sneaker, this “Renowned Rhythm” edition employs genuine and (a little) synthetic leather, making for a durable, easy-to-keep-pristine shoe. Gently wipe away scuffs, grass stains and rubber marks so even the smallest on-the-go baller stays looking fresh all day long.
While Jordan shoes were getting much of the fame at the time of their debut, Scottie Pippen made his mark sporting the More Uptempos on the court. In fact, you can spot these sneaks on Pippen’s feet during replays of both the ’96 Summer Olympics and the NBA Championship games that year.
A full-length Air sole unit, which peeks out through windows that span the entire midsole, makes for the ultimate comfortable ride. However, the most prominent feature of these shoes is the bubble letters that spell out “AIR” along the sides. (In case you were wondering what your kid has underfoot.)
While this bold graphic element composes most of the upper, a series of perforated rows spacing out the letters lends breathability to the foot. That means even the littlest ones can sport these sneaks outside in the sweltering summer, and bigger kids can stay cool in the heat of the game.
Elastic shoelaces provide a uniquely custom fit, so the foot stays firmly in place, and the mesh tongue contributes to both the breathability and the luxe padding of this sneaker. White cable tongue and heel tabs assist determined kids in pulling their shoes on or taking them off. And a white rubber base adorned with red Swooshes exudes plenty of that press-worthy mid-’90s flair.
Give the next generation something to show off. Shop these shoes in toddler, preschool and grade school kids’ sizes, both online and in-stores at Hibbett | City Gear.
