Nike dropped the “Greater Than” series last year — a collection of shoes perfect for the modern baller who makes precision cuts, jumps on the fly and runs up and down the court. Now, it’s time for a sequel.
The Nike Air Zoom GT Cut 2 in gemstone print takes all the best parts of the original GT Cut and makes them even better. The Desert Berry, Summit White and black design features advanced traction, a carved-out midsole for weight reduction and a new heel Zoom Air unit.
Like a lot of shoes in the lineup, this one also has a black base. However, you’ll notice a transparent meshing in the toe box, where you can see the support structure underneath—which was inspired by a butterfly. This is all an effort to keep the shoes as lightweight as possible while providing decent ventilation.
In a unique touch, the black laces connect directly into medial and lateral webbing loops in a salmon color. The tongue itself is a selling point of the shoe, as it features designs of crystalized stones throughout. These gems especially pop at the top of the tongue, which is absent from other Nike branding.
A teal React insole offers support so you can keep going all game long, while the black ankle padding keeps you locked in. White Swooshes soar across the middle in typical fashion. At the heel, there’s a stiff navy clip that’s meant to keep your foot centered over the cushioning. A ridged black counter offers nice visual contrast.
You’ll see the Zoom Air unit in the heel contained inside a salmon cutout. Beneath that is the all-white midsole which features a full-length Air Zoom Stroebel unit.
Underfoot, the tri-toned outsole features traction patterns in black, salmon and blue. This smear traction pattern is meant for making sharp cuts, meaning you can get help sticking to the ground while using your toe to dig yourself free.
All in all, these kicks look sick as you’re flying through the air dunking on your opponents. They’re definitely meant for in-game wear, so we recommend limiting them to your court shenanigans. Pair them with black crew socks, black basketball shorts and your team’s jersey to look the part. If you’re looking for a basketball shoe fit for the modern age, look no further than the Nike Air Zoom GT Cut 2 in gemstone print.
